10K SUCCESS!! :)

So I am SUPER pumped because I FREAKIN ROCKED the 10K I was so stressed about!!
Race Recap:
Before the race, I got up at 5:30 (yes, AM) to get ready to run. TOY2 picked me up at around 5:50, and off she, her husband, and I went. I had a banana and an almond bar in the car, and filled my Nalgene. We got there, got our chip, went to the bathroom, and spent the remaining 30 minutes before she started her race chatting and stretching.

At 7:00, she and my other closest friend from work, TOY3, began their half marathons. I'm not quite there, but I'm super up for the challenge to get training soon.

After they left, my friend, Mrs. AD, and I stood around, sort of stretching, but mostly taking in all the people around us.

Finally, at 7:15, it was time to race. The race director warned us that we had to run "All the way up hill to the airport overlook- You're welcome" and that it was a "challenging course", so I was fairly nervous. Below are the mile recaps, though they are just guesses, as there were NO mile markers anywhere during the race.

Mile 1:
I felt pretty good to start, I felt stretched and energized, and ready to run. Not even a mile into it (it seemed), we had a water stop. I had vowed to stop and drink when I got to any water stop, but it seemed rather soon- I took a water, and drank it, but did not stop.

Mile 2:
Still feeling good, and the hills I was expecting were no where to be found. I thought I should still go slow, though, because I was ready to run way up hill at some point. At about 2.5, we turned around at the "overlook". I still didn't see any major uphill climb, but I was totally ready to turn around. TOY3's daughter and wife were there, though and totally cheered me on. It was certainly the motivation I needed to stay focused and keep running.

Mile 3:
At about mile 3.5 (maybe around the 4 mark), we had the same water stop again. I still was really feeling too good to stop, so I drank some water and kept trucking.

Mile 4:
This was in a greenway area that I was actually quite familiar with. I was getting tired, but not pooped to the point that I needed to quit running. This was kinda strange to me, as I expected to want to die the last two miles of the run, but I was still going, and in fact encouraging those around me not to give up and to keep on running.

Mile 5:
I was starting to really tire by mile 5. Since there were no mile markers, I kept anticipating the end, and it didn't want to come. I felt okay, but was ready for the race to be over.

Mile 6 (the last .2):
This was a cruel cruel joke played on us by the people who planned the race. This stupid last .2 was absolutely UPHILL! And not just with an incline a freaking HUGE HILL! All I wanted to do was stop, and I'm sure that my "running" pace was not much faster than I could have walked, but was DETERMINED not to stop running. Finally, the last little bit was downhill, and I sprinted for all I had left.

Not sure what my chip time was, but my watch said I finished in 1:05. Not too shabby, considering... That's all I'll bore you with for now. Tomorrow, I'll list out the positives and negatives from the day. If you made it this far reading this post- thanks!! :)
